Antananarivo | Republic of Madagascar
Mr. Khadim Diop, Vice President of the Afro-Arab Youth Council (AAYC) for the Francophone Group and President of the National Youth Council of Senegal, participated in a regional dialogue on green skills and youth pathways towards a sustainable future, held in Antananarivo, Madagascar, as part of broader regional efforts to promote green employment opportunities for young people across Africa.
The event formed part of a joint United Nations-supported initiative involving Senegal, Madagascar, and Cuba, with the participation of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The initiative aims to strengthen policies, skills, and partnerships capable of transforming the green transition into tangible economic and employment opportunities for young people.
During the event, Mr. Diop contributed to a dedicated discussion on the role of youth organisations in promoting green jobs in Africa. He emphasised the importance of moving beyond viewing young people merely as beneficiaries of the green transition and recognising them as active partners in shaping policies, developing solutions, and creating future employment opportunities.
His participation reflects the growing engagement of the Afro-Arab Youth Council in regional and international dialogue and policymaking processes related to youth, climate action, and sustainable development. It also strengthens the Council’s role in connecting Arab and African youth voices with international institutions and development partners.
Furthermore, this participation reinforces the Council’s commitment to linking youth priorities with Africa’s current economic and environmental challenges, while creating new opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange among African countries, contributing to more sustainable economies capable of generating decent employment opportunities for young people.
The participation forms part of the Afro-Arab Youth Council’s continued efforts to strengthen its regional and international presence and contribute to discussions shaping the future of youth engagement, green transformation, and sustainable development across Africa.
