The Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC) participated in the activities of the Arab Regional Forum on Youth, Peace and Security, hosted in Algeria on Saturday, March 28 - 29, 2026, at the Sheraton Hotel. The Council was represented at a high level by its President, Dr. Nabil Mohammed Yahiaoui, alongside broad participation from ministers, diplomatic figures, and youth from various Arab countries.
The forum was officially inaugurated by Mr. Mustapha Hidaoui, Minister of Youth in charge of the High Council for Youth, in the presence of members of the Algerian government, as well as Arab ministers. The event is organized by the Algerian Ministry of Youth in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the patronage of the League of Arab States, under the theme: “Partners in Peace… Youth Shaping the Future.”
This forum represents a comprehensive Arab platform aimed at strengthening the role of youth in promoting a culture of peace and security amid growing regional and international challenges. In his remarks, the Algerian Minister emphasized that hosting this forum reflects Algeria’s firm commitment to supporting the Arab strategy on youth, peace, and security, and advancing it from commitments to practical implementation by empowering youth and involving them in decision-making.
In the same context, Ms. Natasha Van Rijn, UNDP Resident Representative in Algeria, praised Algeria’s leading role in youth empowerment, highlighting the importance of expanding partnerships, particularly at the Arab and African levels. Meanwhile, both Sadok Mourali and Nayef Al-Bakri stressed that investing in youth remains a strategic choice for achieving peace and sustainable development.
The opening ceremony also featured a high-level dialogue session that brought together officials and youth delegations to discuss the priorities of the Arab strategy in the fields of youth, peace, and security. The session provided an interactive platform for youth to express their perspectives and aspirations, reflecting a growing commitment to actively involve them in policymaking.
